Don't Lie To Yourself

By Sandy Tonsing

Trying hard to quit smoking? How have you fared so far? Well, with the ban of smoking coming in vogue you felt left out, your old pals have all quit smoking and the habit you once thought was normal is unapproved and no longer considered health friendly. Just accidentally lighting up (old habit die hard!) in public places gains you many spectators who are ready to pounce on you. So, not wanting to be ostracized you told everybody you are going to quit.

However, it turned out that quitting is easier said than done. You tried hard but when temptation came in you became too weak to fight back. You cannot resist the charm of nicotine as it is about to leave your system. You seem to be more and more attracted to it especially the smell and the aroma. Unable to withstand the withdrawal syndrome you lighted up again vowing it will be your last but this last never seemed to come.

You fell back into your old ways even though you had told and promised your near and dear ones that you are done with smoking. What will you do now? I know you would not cease your smoking but would want others to think that you have quit smoking because if you do not, they will call you weak and a liar. So, you will start smoking in your own confine or places where you will not be noticed by others you know. It suits you and so you would carry on very well with your pretense and to make it look real you would even condemn other smokers in front of your people.

Though you might carry on very well with this lie but at the end of the day the harvest of your bad habit will not leave you. With your health deteriorating everyday with every puff you inhale you cannot lie to your body nor cheat death. Besides, you may lie to people to get praise or respect but you can not lie to yourself. One suggestion that I would like to give the likes of you is ‘Do not cheat yourself because by lying to yourself you lose your own self respect and confidence’. You despise yourself for being so weak and hence might get into depression easily once your lie opens up in front of others.

You may be happy when smoking and you may enjoy the thrill which nicotine deviously releases in your system but remember this happiness and excitement is not forever rather it causes you harm that is irreversible. If you find smoking cessation to be very hard, you must get help immediately. Visit online anti-smoking sites or join some anti smoking forum, call the quit line numbers, talk to people and share your problem.

Further, there are many alternatives which will help you kick the butt. Instead of being called a chimney head it is far better to carry or adopt some quit smoking program. You can also get medical help, consulting your doctor will do you good and might be the best option as your doctor would check your medical history and will give you a quitting option that is most suitable for you.

Other alternatives are quit smoking medicines. The latest and the most successful out of them is Pfizer Chantix. It is FDA approved and what is best that it functions just like nicotine and thus helps to bring down the withdrawal symptoms next to ‘zero’. Doctors generally prescribe this drug to hardcore smokers who had been smoking for many years. You can easily order chantix, in fact these days you can even buy chantix online. This might be the best option for you, therefore, see your doctor and buy chantix before it’s too late and before you are exposed!
