How often is a person diagnosed with cerebral palsy?
In reality the number of individuals who are born with cerebral palsy is quite low. It is estimated that only 2 in every 2000 births in industrialized countries. But there are cases where CP develops after birth due to a traumatic brain injury but even these are relatively low in number. Many times it is during birth that the brain injury occurs which is why it is important if your child is diagnosed with CP that you find out if it was something that occurred during childbirth. There have been lawsuits brought against doctors who inadvertently damaged a child while delivering him or her. |
